I feel a song coming on...

or at least a few ideas. As a songwriter for the past 25 years I've learned to trust the creative process and not get to freaked out when I go months and months, or even years without finishing a song. I've had a few Christmas song ideas this week that I hope to finish by next Christmas, and I have a notebook full of ideas on self-care that go along with my women's workshop presentation "Preventing Emotional Burnout". I'm excited to slowly add more and more music to these presentations. (By the way, if you want me to come and present this to your stake RS group, let me know and I'll send you the info.)

I am the kind of person who needs to create in order to feel alive, and music is one of my main avenues for expression.
As a multi-tasking mother of 4, my brain and my heart are often full of the day to day stuff of life, making it difficult to spend more than 5 seconds in meaningful self reflecting that songwriting requires. As my youngest gets a little more independent, and is now sleeping through the night on a regular basis, and the Home Team talk show was cancelled (due to budget cuts) I hope to have more time to reflect and share some creativity with you.

I want to hear what you do to express yourself...

Peace in '09!
~Julie

Thanks for your music. I first heard some of your songs at a time when I needed an uplift, and they really made a difference to me.

In response to your question, I write when I need a creative outlet. In fact, I feel a void when I haven't written anything for a while. The weirdest thing is, though, that sometimes I dread writing until I sit down and do it. When I actually start making marks on the page, it's like I'm a whole person again.

Your song, "A Window to His Love" is one of my favorites to play on my classical guitar. I have a blog of classical guitar instrumental solos, in tablature. (go to mormonguitartabs.blogspot.com) I'd love to post my arrangement on my blog. I usually include lyrics to one verse, just to help the guitarist find his/her way around in the song. Any chance I could get permission? The blog is only for non-commercial users, so I'm afraid I can't pay anything, but I'll include any publicity I can.

Julie,
I love your music. You are so talented. While attending BYU I went to one of your performances. It was beautiful and I'm grateful that I had the opportunity. Now I'm back home in Hawaii and will be using one of your songs for our RS visiting teaching conference. I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to inquire but I'm not sure what other way to contact you. So, here it goes...I have your CD (Charity)piano music for the CD. We will be using your "Hands of Heaven" song. I was wondering if you have the instrumental music for this song. Our piano player recently passed away (a remarkably wonderful and talented sister) and I just don't have the necessary skill to play it on the piano. Please let me know where I could get a copy. We would like to have a few of our sisters sing this song for the conference. You can email me at deseret.nau@gmail.com.

Mahalo,
Des

Without music life is without color. What a great blessing it is to have these gifts to create and share through song. It is a part of who we are. It is a powerful way to reach souls.

I was asked to sing "I am a Princess" for our stake yw leadership meeting in April- where might I find the sheet music? The stake would also like to give each ward(there are 12) copies for their girls to learn. We don't want to break any copyright laws. Thank you for your time, talents, and testimony- heather@shepherdspie.net

Is there a place I can go to just get the lyrics to your songs? I already have your the sheet music. I'm trying to decide which of your songs to sing for YW meeting and I want to email the lyrics to my mother in law so she can help me decide. Thanks!

How can I get permission to publish my arrangement of "A Window to His Love" on my blog, Mormon-Friendly Guitar Tabs? Please reply to d.fallick@yahoo.com

The following, I think, says something about the creative process's connection with gratitude/proper attribution of source from a more secular perspective. I think you'll find it interesting to see how a secular person finds aid and solace in disconnecting one from their works/inspiration
